As I’m restructuring my business offers, I’ve been struggling a bit with branding. Though I help my clients with this all the time, it’s seems hard to help myself. No worries, I do have some excellent brand experts in my corner.

While branding was fresh on my mind the other day, I stumbled across a video on Phil Gerbysak’s site. The video, put together by ZeFrank, brings branding down to a simple concept:

A brand is an emotional aftertaste that’s conjured up by, but not necessarily dependent on, a series of experiences.

…Everything has an emotional aftertaste. And everything’s a potential brand.

The short video is definitely worth the watch. Just be ware that ZeFrank does use a few expletives in getting his point across.

    I dunno!

Definitely interesting. Gets the point across — I think. 😉

Definitely need to sleep on this one — hope I don’t have bad dreams.

Glad you enjoyed the video Dawud. It’s always interesting to hear others talk about that which I am passionate about. Branding is one of those things.

ZeFrank was new to me too, and I don’t think he does new stuff anymore, but he made me think. I like that!

    Lyle,

I know…this is my first experience with ZeFrank. But I did poke around YouTube and found some interesting videos. Not sure where to place him yet. But I did find this video helpful.

Branding myself was probably one of the hardest things I’ve done — quite honestly, I don’t think I’m ever really done with it. I often wonder what it would be like to get an expert to take my own branding off my hands and do it for me… I’m curious if I would be satisfied with the results.

    I liked the vid 🙂

It is a good video, although the concepts do come fast and furious.

I’m a big fan of branding (it’s one of my hot topics right now)… especially when I found out that it all rests (IMHO) on something I’ve been teaching for some time: your heart’s Message. (Some call it purpose, etc.)

Anyhoo, I don’t want to get all self-promotional on you all, so I’ll stop there… but I know I found a lot of clarity checking out Marty Neumeier’s work, too. (Brand Gap and Zag are his books…)

    Phil,

Me too. I’m really getting my mind around this branding thing. Which is good since I’m going through it a rebranding myself. This video helped a bit. Thanks for finding it.

    Lisa,

Would you want an expert to do it for you? Or would you want an expert to help you through the process?

I do find it challenging as well. I think because it’s forcing me to really look at what I offer, its value to clients and how I’m positioned in the market – among other things. It seems branding is ultimately about how we effectively differentiate ourselves from others. And that takes great clarity. And perhaps constantly evolving clarity.

    Adam,

You mentioned Marty to me the other day. I’m finding lots of stuff about Zag and have been quite impressed. Plan on buying the book.

I know what you mean about the video. That’s why I watched it a few times.

    Ed,

I found this from Phil and then on BlipTV. Didn’t see a slow play.

As you know, I’m finding the same problem. Talking to Drew McClellan the other night helped a lot though.

Wow. That was interesting! Does Youtube have a slow play button. I know he crammed a lot of information in there, and I think some of it was pretty good,

As you know, Dawud, I’m having the same issue as you. I have no problem helping clients and participants in my enlightened entrepreneurs course come up with a brand, or at least refine their brand. But when it comes to getting the perspective neccessary to create my own emotional aftertaste, it’s definitely a bit more difficult.

Good to know that I’ve got some awesome folks in my corner as well!

Propagating my business ideas and reaching out to clients is quite a difficult thing. I have seen many you tube video but this video is just amazing. Lots of practicalities have to be understood in the business.
