SufiHeart is the home for Shadhdhuliyya Sufism in Michigan under the guidance of Sidi Muhammad al-Jamal ar-Rifa’i ash-Shadhdhuli. The site offers teachings and updated information about local and national events.
SufiHeart was a site that I did for a non-profit organization. They were looking for a simple, easy to use and update design that carried a bit of the essence of Sufi teachings. It was important to highlight the Guide, Sidi, without making him look like a guru or a figure of worship, while at the same time showing the need for a spiritual teacher.
The visual design was one I had a lot of leeway with. I chose to focus all the navigation near the top of the screen so that it would be easy to find your way around. I also used subtle, gentle colors that added depth to the message in the content, while not detracting from it. Lastly, I made it possible that all the content on the site could be updated without the site owner needing to know any web code whatsoever.
