Touching The Light That Exists in Us All

written on 26 February, 2007 by Dawud Miracle

It’s sort of funny. I began watching the Oscars last night while my wife was putting our son to bed (I had daughter duty). As she came down the stairs and I turned off the TV, I remember saying to myself, “gotta find out who wins Best Actor tomorrow.”

Most of the time I wouldn’t care. Yet, this year was different. This year a unique and gifted human being was up for the award. And he happened to win.

Forest Whitaker has always struck me as an amazing human being, with an amazing spirit. His speech last night highlighted the beauty and humility that are, uniquely, his own.

Thanks to CK for helping me find the video.

How do you reach out and touch the spark of light that exists in others?

My pleasure! I also found the text of the speech (right below the video at my place), feel free to copy and paste into your post. Such a moving speech by an actor and director I’ve respected for years.

It will be a speech that I shall re-watch and re-read for many years to come.

    CK,

Thanks. How about I link to the text of the speech on your site?

I’ve really enjoyed Mr. Whitaker for years as well. I’ve watched this many times myself. Isn’t wonderful that someone with these qualities finally gets recognized for his work?

It truly is. I loved how he spoke to connecting with everyone and how it IS possible to attain and touch your dreams.

    CK,

Nice transition into blogging, don’t you think?

I’m glad you enjoyed this video. I posted it because he has really touched a chord with me in several of his films. He has also been an inspiration. Thank the Gods that he has finally been rewarded for his many years of inspirational work.

    Robert,

Thank you for posting it. I was moved by the honesty and vulnerability that we saw from Mr. Whitaker. And I call him Mr. Whitaker out of respect.

I, too, have been moved by many of his roles. In some cases, I know of no other actor who could have played a role as well as he did. The Bird, Charlie Parker, comes to mind immediately.
