Dawud Miracle - Advice to grow your small business

You’ve Gotta See Wendy Piersall’s New Design at eMom

written on 1 March, 2007 by Dawud Miracle

I’ve been reading Wendy Piersall’s blog, eMOMS AT HOME, for a few about a month now. Since finding it, I’ve read her posts daily. Her writing is always engaging, informative and helpful for what ever I’m doing. Her ‘tagline’ sums it up…

It’s not about the home business, nor about what you are doing as much as who you are being. Be true to the real you, the brilliant, spectacular, talented and remarkable you, and guess what?
Your business will skyrocket.

emomsathome.jpgWell, Wendy has recently redesigned eMOMS AT HOME. You’ve gotta check it out. The site is better organized with lots more stuff. Take a few minutes to check out what’s new. I love her

And for all you men who don’t think eMom has anything to offer you…think again. Wendy recently shared with me that about 40% of her readership is male. So don’t let the name of her site fool you. She’s got plenty to help you with. And remember, we’ve all had moms.

She’ll be speaking at SOBCon07. I’ll be there. Will you?

    Wendy,

You’re welcome. I’m really digging your blog so it’s my pleasure to share it with my readers. A heavy workload lately has kept me from commenting more on your blog, but I read your posts. Just keep up the great writing.

HA! There are days when I can comment like crazy – others, I just click ‘mark as read’ in my feed reader to 400+ posts.

No worries, friend! It’s been fun getting to know each other and I’m really looking forward to meeting you in May! :)

Unfortunately the blog didn’t seem to be working when I checked. Perhaps it was a problem at my end.

I hope all’s well with you Dawud.

Sadly David, my hosting company has been no help with this – there have been random internal server errors over the last couple of days, and it’s been difficult to replicate to understand why. It might have something to do with Firefox, or perhaps with the “www” being excluded. In fact, I’m switching hosting companies today because I’m at my wits end about it.

Fingers crossed you’ll give the link another try in the next couple of days? Then again, your blog is so beautifully simple and clean, who knows what you’ll think? :)

Thanks Wendy :) You’re very kind.

I’ll check back again as soon as I get through the work that’s piled up over these past few days.

I took a break in Northern Ireland to see my family. Great times.

    Wendy,

Chicago should be fun. And, the weather should be a lot better. This freezing rain thing is killing me.

BTW, who is your current host? New host?

    David,

Thanks David. All is well. Just been real busy as of late. Less time to blog and comment and more time getting client work done. I’ll ‘see’ you soon, though.

Current is Yahoo hosting. In addition to the above mentioned stuff, they also will not allow you to edit your own htaccess file, which has caused big problems on my site because I run WordPress, and several plugins need access to that file.

I’m switching to Blue Host. You can host 6 separate sites under 6 separate domain names with one cheap hosting package. So I’ve been double paying since last September, because I host my personal development blog over there. I had no idea until recently that I could host it all over there!

    Wendy,

Yeah, I can’t recommend Yahoo! to anyone who’s serious about their business. I’ve not had great experiences with them for clients.

Blue Host is pretty good from what I hear. I’ve not worked with them myself, but have heard good things. I would guess your flexibility and service are going to be superior over Yahoo!.

Let me know if you run into any troubles.

Wendy, Hope the move is going well. Also hope you and others read the post from Dawud regarding “owning your website“. There are a lot of scams on the Internet and unfortunately many of them aren’t the kind we typically think of. perpetrated by some little shady character in his parent’s basement. They often come under the guise of big, friendly multi-billion dollar businesses, like Yahoo. I could tell you a long, sad story about how they treat people with Yahoo groups and thousands of members/potential customers, but I won’t, no need to start the week with a rant.

Your site seems to be working great on Sunday evening your time, and as I’ve already said, I like the name/niche. I’m really surprised at how many in today’s world are hung up over gender roles. I thought we started leaving that behind 20 plus years ago when i used to work professionally in the harassment/discrimination Prevention/education field but apparently we still have a lot farther to go. Hopefully moms and dads don’t still teach their children “that’s a boy’s job” or “that’s a girl’s job”, but I guess some still do.

As a retired US citizen living in a third-world country I am interested in learning more about your interest in helping. We likely have things in common.

    Dave,

Thanks for your thoughtful comments. My “owning your website” post is more an education as to why you may not want to use a monthly all-inclusive web design company, like Yahoo! Small Business. It’s less about services that abuse…and thanks for the commentary.
