I've been blogging for a couple of weeks now and I can say that I've used both personal and instinctive initiatives rather than a set methodology.
I just think starting with a very conversant area will keep start you off with the basics of blogging.

[...] Now, a blog is about having a conversation. It’s about the democratization of the flow of information. As Mitch Joel put it: A Blog is the glory of a personal voice - warts and all. That is why people are gravitating toward them. […] We want to know that business cares about us and treasures our loyalty. We want more… and we’re starting with a conversation that has a human voice behind it.
[...] 2. Linkbait Potential: Blogging is about joining a conversation, so having a blog helps to get you talked about. The ability to comment and trackback also encourage users to interact with your site more. As your blog becomes a member of a larger community, it will become talked about in forums, other blogs, and the comment section of your own blog. When this happens, you receive more inbound links. Of course, you have to link others to do this, but because blogs are about conversing, linking to other blogs is critical. [...]

What seems to have worked for me is simply being myself. I don't curb myself or my personality. I'm decent at 1, 2 and 3. 4, 5, 6 and 7? I'm a 2 at. :P

Thanks Mindful Maverick.

It is important to find blogs that keep you 'informed.' There's a lot of places to start, but I would suggest finding other blogs in your genre and watch them, comment on them and link to them. Start with a few and build as you get more comfortable.

I love the seven steps. I'm a new blogger and love that a blog creates a perspective to see the world.

With all the information being generated daily, it is important to find a few local sources (blogs) to stay informed without getting overloaded.
