Are The Right Customers Using Your Business?

written on 9 February, 2008 by Dawud Miracle

I’ve seen this happen a number of times…

You work real hard to position your business just right in your target market only to find that the people buying aren’t in your target market. What do you do?

Well, some businesses decide that should reposition their business to reach their intended target market. MISTAKE!

Why do this? If you already have customers buying, who cares where they come from. Perhaps you miscalculated with your target market. Perhaps you didn’t see how your product or service would benefit a different market. So what!

The difference between success and failure in your business comes down to are you talking to the people who are listening? Or, are you talking to people who aren’t?

My advice, and the advice of Guy Kawasaki in the video below, talk to the people who are listening. Then, readjust your positioning – if even necessary – to reach more of those who are already buying in. Or, as Guy says it, “Take the money.”

So are the ‘right people’ buying into your business? Do you care?

Very interesting post Dawud, and I couldn’t agree more.

It’s probably a lot easier to get the people who are already buying to buy even more, than to get people who are not buying (and not listening) to start buying.

I have read an article from Russell Brunson about this, and he teaches how you can find your buyers, the people that won’t stop buying no matter what kind of product you will sell to them :-)

I think this also applies to web site traffic. When analyzing your web stats, do you find traffic you never expected? Do the same unexpected search terms show up repeatedly? Of course, it may be time to refine your keyword strategy, but then again, you might be further ahead to test the market you’ve stumbled across by finding or creating a product to meet their needs.

    Jens,
Yeah, but so many business owners don’t get this. They think that something’s wrong with their marketing if the ‘wrong’ people are buying. There’s nothing wrong with the marketing, just what you expect. That’s why we test.

    Yes Dawud, I agree.

    It’s all about three things:

    1. test
    2. track
    3. evaluate

Some great info and I must agree. It is all about collecting and analyzing data and readjusting. The problem I have always had was just trying to get any customers ;)

    Jens,
    Four, actually – repeat.

    martial artist,
How do you position yourself? And…who is your target audience?

Yes, Dawud you are absolutely right.

I forgot about that one :-)

In a business, it’s important that we know great marketing strategies.

  • Dawud Miracle Feb 12, 2008 at 10:52 am

    Phil,
Yes. And more important that we know ourselves, what we do and who we do it for.

Interesting philosophy, it would seem to me that hardest part is determining that you are actually getting the right listeners to the business to begin with and speaking to them rather than at them, which seems to be the biggest challenge for many businesses.

  • Dawud Miracle Feb 15, 2008 at 3:15 pm

    SEO Image,
It is. And it’s true, you want to speak with them then at them. Moreover, if you can speak with them as a conversation, leading toward a relationship, it’s even more powerful.

Are you managing your business right?
If not, look for debt solutions from debt management and IVAs, mortgages and re-mortgages. usw.

    Thanks.

Moving your business after you have customers is the same as saying the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

I agree with you Dawud..^^ it is really not important if the people guying your products didn’t come from the group your are targeting..what matters most is you are earning an income..^^

  • Dawud Miracle Apr 21, 2008 at 9:31 pm

    Debt,
What other solutions than just debt?

    Timous,
Maybe, unless you find that you’ve positioned yourself in the wrong target audience. Then wouldn’t it be wise to move?

    Internet Marketing,
Somewhat true. For me what matters is a willingness to change, learn and grow all the time. That means evaluating your marketing and the responses you get – even more than the income.

    Thoughts?

Yes, very good post, people who are listening usually are the ones that are interested. People who are interested are alot easier to convert into sales than someone who is not. Perhaps the person who is “not interested” also needs to be simply educated about your product or service first. Now if they don’t listed after knowing all of this, don’t waste your time.

Sales promotions and incentives will definitely help branding. This kind of things can easily spread through either a word of mouth (more common) for offline business and through viral marketing if you happen to have an online presence (business websites) and can easily drive more traffic to your business. Thus, generating more sales.

I have to admit Branding is everything in business, in order to start a good and profitable business you need to create your own unique and creative brand or identity. The brand that you created will boost your online and offline presence, when that happens more sales will be coming in to your business.

I’ve known this site brandmelive.com that helps and guides and individual or startup company on how to create your own unique brand that stands out from the rest. In less than a month, I assure you, you will start to experience great amount of success on your brand or business with the efforts you put in. Believe me, I’m one of the million that benefited from that site.

    Hope that helps.
