My friend Sujan Patel posted this video last week.
I normally wouldn’t share something that’s this vulgar with you, but I think it goes a long way to showing the price we pay for using Digg. Boy can the comment box get interesting.
What’s been your experience?
Dana Wallert says
Great video! I haven’t personally had the fortune (good and bad) of being dugg, but I have seen a lot of this type of stuff there. I use StumbleUpon a lot, and though I know there’s some of the same on there, I don’t think it’s quite so excessive.

The best advice I could give (and why would I give any less!) is this:
Ignore Digg Comments
If you can’t, then don’t use digg.

First! 😀
Hehe, good video, even though it’s kinda old by now.

Dana,
Thanks. Can’t take credit for more than just finding and sharing it. I think the video over-dramatizes things a bit, but it also gets a needed point across.
What’s been your experience on Stumble?
Ben,
Yeah, I know. I just can’t help but get annoyed from time-to-time about it. I’m just glad I’m not a young, blonde woman.
And I’m with you on giving the best advice – your advice rocks!
Togmkn,
I know, had been kicking around whether to share it or not. And, I’ve had a lot of good stuff to write about lately so I wasn’t sure where it would fit in.

Now I know why I’ve been avoiding Digg!
Unfortunately, in my life as a programmer, I think I’ve worked with most of these people. These are the sorts of meeting when you bring in a bunch of quarters so people can buy clues.:-)
I know the social media stuff is important, but I still haven’t gotten into it due to the signal to noise ratio. How many stupid comments, twitters, videos and other junk do you have to wade through to get to the good stuff?
That is why I value this blog. The posts are on target, and the comments are insightful (this one excluded, of course LOL)

Just forget about Digg comments, comments on Digg are like people heads (everybody has one)
Dawud Miracle says
Joann,
Thanks for the compliment.
I agree with a few of the commenters above…I just ignore the ridiculous comments. What I don’t understand is why people find it necessary to be mean for no reason other than to be mean. I just don’t live like that. I value people and relationships too much. And one thing you never know, that blogger you’re impolite too may someday turn out to be your boss. I don’t think bloggers think so much about the permanency and reach of the internet.
Turismo,
I have – and do. Just spreading the knowledge.
Slevi says
I’d go even a step further than Ben’s advise, just ignore Digg as a whole ;). The lameness of many of the comments does hold quite a lot of truth, most of the stuff on digg is the same old crap seen before already anyways so why bother to check on it still.
david says
Turn a blind eye to digg’s comments and never respond for it will become a flame war. That is one sick video there!
Andy says
The Quality of News that actually gets a ton of diggs is pretty poor. There is so many submissions and the “upcoming” subs get buried to page 3 so fast that you barely have time to read them all. That video is funny. However I think the average age of the people in the video is much older than most users who actually act like that.
Dawud Miracle says
david,
My question is…if you want readers, is Digg really worth it?
Slevi,
That’s where I’ve been lately. I may change my mind in the future. But I just don’t, yet, see Digg to be worth the headache.
Andy,
I was wondering the same thing.
I guess for me the issue with Digg is that it’s just not worth the time, effort and headache. Why would I want to set myself to be ripped on, on purpose? Just doesn’t make sense. I’d rather spend the time getting to know one fellow blogger.
Wissam Idrissi says
I think Original video from Gizmodo or something …
Armannd says
Digg is a very useful tool, too bad that it is so biased…
Advice Network Writing contest says
I use digg every day, but I only look at the front page. I never submit, I never look at upcoming stories, I NEVER look at the comments (yuck) I hardly even ever bother to vote.
Dawud Miracle says
Advice,
That’s about the way I use Digg too.
