what your website says about youWhat would your visitors say your website says about you?

As you know, your website is the gateway to millions of people having access to you and your services. If used effectively, your website becomes an amazing tool for connecting with people who will become your client.

Every day people are visiting your website. And whether you like it or not, they’re judging you by what your website looks like, how well it’s organized and how useful your content is to them. Without ever talking with you people will use your website to decide if your worth contacting.

So what does your website say about you…and about your business?

Most often what you think people see on your website is actually quite different from their experience. You want them to see compassion, for instance, when they see clutter, disorganization or careless design. Far more often than not your out-dated or poorly put together website will cause people to leave – even if you’re content is good.

This is why it’s important for the opinions of others.

It’s a good exercise to to ask other people what your website says about you. You could ask peers. You could ask friends or family. But the best people to ask are the people who are or have been clients. They offer the best feedback because they’re actually the people you want interested in your website. Your clients can tell you what your website says about you in ways no one else really can.

There’s a number of ways to do this. One simple method is to take a moment and think of just three words or traits you want your website to exude when people see. These could be words such as ‘organized,’ ‘calming,’ friendly,’ ‘warm’ or ‘professional.’ Find three traits that you want to focus what your website says about you. Start with your list of 3 traits.

Then, with those three traits in mind, take a good look at your own homepage. Look closely and honestly. Does your homepage display these traits? Is your homepage an adequate reflection of your personality, your skills, your business acumen?

Not sure what your website says about you?

Need a little help? We can all help each other. Leave a comment on this post. Include your website’s URL and your three traits. Then we can all visit each others sites and leave our own impressions of what your website says about you.

I’ll even go first. My 3 traits on my homepage are ease, simplicity, being helpful to overwhelmed business owners. Love to hear your impressions of how my current website design meets those traits for you (or not). And then please leave your URL and traits and I’ll give you my impressions too.

All of us leaving comments about each other’s sites and the feedback could be very helpful for each of us.

Just so it’s clear, here’s what to do next:

  • Go to the comments section.
  • Fill-in the comment form information.
  • In the comment box share your impressions of my site based on my traits listed above
  • Then add your 3 traits and your URL and submit the comment.
  • I will guarantee feedback. And others will likely give feedback as well.

Very simple. I want to help you find out what your website says about you.
